Jon & Sophie welcome you to the bell&bearVillage Pub & Restaurant.![]() Our pub & restaurant is situated in Emberton, one mile from the pretty market town of Olney, famous for John Newton's Olney Hymns, Amazing Grace and the world's oldest pancake race. A grade II listed building, the pub was named after Emberton's two old pubs, The Bell (where we are now) and The Bear, which was situated where the A509 now runs. We have a large car park & garden, a separate restaurant and public bar. We are just 5 minutes walk from Emberton Park and just 100 yards from the walkway & cycle route between Sherington & Olney. We are just 10 miles in each direction from Milton Keynes, Bedford and Northampton.
We have an intimate separate restaurant serving an imaginative a la carte menu in the evenings, Tuesday to Saturday. We also serve highly regarded traditional Sunday lunches. We believe in using local produce where possible because it's fresher and therefore tastier, better value for money and allows us to maintain a good community spirit. We would like to meet local growers and would be more than happy to swap great produce for meals or drinks. Come meet us and strike a deal! We are also passionate about our real ale, we generally have three to four real ales on at once, constantly rotating, and emphasising local breweries. Olney's own Hopping mad, White Park, Concrete Cow, Silverstone, Frog Island, Great Oakley, Hoggleys, Pot Belly, Whittlebury, Tring, Vale & more. We are Locale accredited, MKCamra Gold recommended and featured in the Good Beer Guide 2012! We have stocked Three local real ciders, one from Virtual Orchard made just 10 miles away in Wolverton Mill using local apples (2011 CAMRA champion cider of Britain) and sister orchard "Woughton Orchard" at Woughton on the Green as well as the Unique "Old Man's Tipple" from Cold Brayfield Estate just 5 miles away. We sell around 50 wines, all by the glass, including a special selection of natural wines, hand picked by Jon and local wine merchant Russell Heap of Bacchus Wines. Our comfortable Public Bar is the village hub, has an open fire, free wifi, comfortable seating and pub games including Northamptonshire Skittles and Darts. We sell jams and chutneys on behalf of the local church, local honey. We also sell real breads from Gareth @ Amazing Grains on Friday Evenings and a small selection on a Wednesday Lunchtime.
We have a clothes recycling bin in our car park with proceeds going to the not for profit Planet Aid UK whose net profits fund more than 200 programs in over 40 countries.
